Why Speaking Out is Dangerous (Unless You’re a Lefty)
-For the Uncensored!
When I was peering through a Leonard Cohen poem “Never Gave Anybody Trouble” the lyrics popped out to me. “I couldn’t pay the mortgage/and I broke my baby’s heart/ never gave anybody trouble/but it ain’t too late to start.” It makes me wonder why people don’t speak up for people at all. The trouble with speech is that in 2021 America, it’s unsettling. When speech is limited, it’s a turn off. Nobody wants to air their opinion unless you’re a lefty. To stop speech from being read has been tried. Book burnings. Hitler did this as well. Democrats do that well, but to a slight degree. As Rage Against the Machine once said, “You don’t have to burn the books you can just remove them,”[i] which is apart of censorship’s powerful grip.
What speaking out means today is a result in being banned, censored, cancelled, even if you are a trans-sexual. Blair White, a prominent trans-sexual Republican youtuber, speaks out against the woke left “removing any at all science about being trans-gender or trans-sexual” it comes as no surprise that speech is often misrepresented to protect the trans-sexual community, who are bowing to leftist ideology. And when Ms. White calls it a “mental disorder” the Internet shrieks. Again, if a trans-woman like Blair White can’t talk about the science behind trans women, then that’s illogical and “oppressive” to Blair White, right?
Since we’re playing games, here’s a thought: protecting people shouldn’t come at the cost of my beliefs. As Dave Chappelle, a prominent comedian, said, “I support anyone’s right to be who they want to be. But my question is: How much do I have to participate in your self-image?” How much does speech have to codify the leftist group think when they have no respect for anyone else. If I have to know all your pronouns in order to be accepted by a cult of pronoun worshippers, then that is not logical.
And the Chinese who own America’s major corporations will censor, with their weird mind games they play, but keep their society fine. America “banning the word simps” and China “as 4,000 influencers are purged from cyberspace” are both using dictatorial means on there “quest to a utopia”[ii] and both are wrong. Telling people to shut up and think the same is damaging.
Notice a theme here? Censorship.
Nothing is logical about censorship. Nothing is logical when your Art, governments, or genders, are dead. If accepting the woke community’s ideas are a good thing, then why do the left not play by their own rules? If I can’t write a book, article, from my own point of view against individuals, like myself. Also changing the rules every day to match up with personal feelings is not logical. Again “how much do I have to participate in your self-image?”
If the deception of freedom of speech made by lawyers that “insults are violence” is an impossible feat almost twenty years ago. If Youtube and big tech in America is allowed to be judge, jury, and executioner, society is now faced with a new threat against freedom of speech. According to an NPR article on December 8th, 2020, Mark Zuckerberg, founder of Facebook, Chester County Bill Turner of voter services in Pennsylvania “applied for an election grant from the Center for Tech and Civic Life, a previously small Chicago-based nonprofit that quickly amassed hundreds of millions of dollars in donations to help local election offices — most notably, $350 million from Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan.”[iii] I don’t see this as helping out. This is called an unfair advantage. Even by most standards, if you explained this to another person, it’s called cheating. While that may be old news, from 2020, the point remains. Big Tech overlords are now dictating what can’t and can be said, which is worse for freedom of speech advocates who question the Democratic Party.
Speaking out is normal, and in 2021, Leonard Cohen’s lyrics now seem like an ancient archaic mode of thinking. But being a good person in 2021 is a trying time. If Republicans were allowed the chance to have a place in the culture, this wouldn’t be an issue. If Democrats actually wanted to have a conversation, they wouldn’t be employing big tech or celebrities in order to censor the competition. But also, the democrats also hate socialists as well.
“Democrats hate socialists more than they hate Republicans” as Jimmy Dore said, regarding India Dalton’s run for a Democrat Party seat in Buffalo, New York.[iv] And Jimmy Dore is anti-authoritarian and anti-censorship.
While I’m not a fan of socialists, the Democratic Party, no matter what, don’t want an honest conversation, which hampers and damages free speech. It makes conversations dangerous. Art, as I am so fond of, is then damaged in the process.
I want people to have honest conversations, even if it might hurt people’s feelings. But I’m not sure if honesty can be had by Big Tech, because if Democrats are censoring Republicans as well as Socialists, this is a problem. If Blaire White, India Dalton, Dave Chappelle, Paul Joseph Watson, Jimmy Dore, and Leonard Cohen, are now artifacts of what logical arguments can be made for freedom of speech in illogical times, then I am hopeful that sanity represents through an ever waning Tik-Tok world where information is squeezed through an organ grinder, and nuance can’t be had. None of the people above aren’t associated with each other nor do they share the same opinions, but they have one thing in common. They are speaking out in illogical times. I hope that one day being illogical will be considered a mental illness, and big tech will be irrelevant one day. But there wouldn’t be any fun if we couldn’t laugh sometimes. But even laughter is a crime in a Democrat world. A scary time 2021 is all who have a functioning brain.
I guess one final point to make is about Leonard Cohen’s lyric, “I never gave nobody trouble/but it ain’t too late to start” reminds me that articles like mine are considered an act of violence against people who are easily offended. And we should still keep going. I can’t pretend that people aren’t offended, but how much do I have to shut up in order for the offended to get on with there day? If the horrible thoughts and arguments I make are offensive, then the arguments made against me are illogical and censorship is an illogical principle. “You’re mean” and I’m like “So what?” And “that’s homophobic, bigoted, racist,” and I say, “Is it, really?” If I’m a villain, then you don’t want to know what’s coming next. Because as Tony Montana from Brian DePalma’s remake of Scarface said, “Say hello to the bad guy, because you’re never going to see a bad guy like me again.”[v]
[i] The alt rock group is now known as the moniker, rage with the machine, as they always fold to the democrat leadership and never appear unless a Republican President is in the White House.
