“Why Don’t You Write Something Happy” is What Normal People Say

It’s a common question, or even accusatory remark that many people are told. As I have been on the receiving end so many time. Somehow, it’s not even the newest remark I have heard in my lifetime. The trick is people often have a misconception of what a writer does in order to survive. Franz Kafka was found all his dark material so funny that his neighbors could hear him laughing, but nobody was home. So, it doesn’t mean that the dark material itself is actually fun for anybody. For me, it’s a sandbox. And being in a horror sandbox is what reminds me of the tools I need to use.
