Why Does Everything Need a Connected Universe?
Share

The more the world tends to be streamlined, where every piece of art, from video games to books, and with Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, the idea of a universe, is like asking for a pizza with everything and nothing on it. The reason is simple.

The idea of a shared universe is like putting everything into a category where a certain set of films or books all follow the same characters, or different books that somehow have varied pieces of lore that will lead up to a new book or movie. It’s necessary for humans to want to categorize and think about how everything is connected.

With Alan Wake 2’s release on October 27th, 2023, IGN calls Remedy’s software games, The Remedy Connected Universe, with thanks to Sam Lake, it’s creative head, donning the idea, too. But the reality is, does every piece of literature or series need to be connected somehow to something entirely different within a publisher or game company?
