For many consumers, video games are another hobby that might be too “elite” for modern video gamers. While a company can spend more and take more time creating a video game, applicable to Red Dead Redemption 2, which took over 8 years to develop and release. Last of Us Part 2 took five years and 10 months. Cyberpunk 2077, announced in 2012, didn’t start production until 2016, but was released in 2020. And lastly, Grand Theft Auto 6, releasing in 2025, was planned in 2014, but not announced until 2022, which makes it a 13 year gap between announcement and release.

The world isn’t surprised when people game today. If the Dinosaurs could grow an appendage and play video games they would do so, and not have died by a huge comet that destroyed them sixty five million years ago. Even the youtuber, gamer granny, Shirley Curry, finally retired from playing Skyrim, due to old age, and physical health deteriorating, used it as a way to connect with people who loved video games. As of 2025, she has over 1.3 million subscribers and has made over 2,400 videos based around Skyrim and playing it religiously to her fans, from 2015 to 2020. But Skyrim wasn’t as expensive, as games are now.
