Space Marine 2 (2024) Review: 4/5 “A Return to Form, a Return to Courage, A Return to the Emperor!”
With War Hammer 40K, the famous English company for miniatures and books, no telling how many lore books have been released since its inception in 1980’s, the sequel to Space Marine, is nothing less than staggering achievement for Saber Interactive, carrying the weight of the 2011 original, even if you haven’t even played the first game. What makes Space Marine 2 special is it’s pulse pounding fury, the battle/set pieces, the yell-at-the-screen mentality, beyond difficult scenarios to solo, and fun the game inspires in me and so many others.
Gameplay/Battle Set Pieces
The opening level, where an unnamed space Marine, is sent to the planet Kadaku to send a virus bomb into the air, is not just a great intro level for the game mechanics, such as parrying/countering an enemies attack to deliver a killing blow, and the weapons, the bolt gun. What makes this level great is that I felt enthralled, as I was yelling at the screen, “Come on, who wants more?” all the while I was button mashing on Angel of Death difficulty. Not in a long time had I felt such a level be as important, as so much was on the line, as I said, “I want to meet this Space Marine,” and things like “Give this man a shield,” crossed my mind.
