(Steven Crowder’s response to Jeremy Boering)
Steven Crowder, a major youtuber for both independent and conservative media, was offered a contract to join the Daily Wire, run by Jeremy Boering, and Ben Shapiro, a movement in independent media that has become continual growing threat to the major Hollywood system. Steven Crowder, who is a rather idiosyncratic figure in youtube culture, but a force to be reckoned with. Even Jordan Peterson, a Daily Wire alum, according to Mikala Peterson, retweeted Steven Crowders video regarding his contract without knowing what the video was. But the Daily Wire didn’t ask Jordan Peterson to delete Crowder’s tweet regarding his business offer from Jeremy Boering. Even YouTube personality, Tim Pool, looks like the battered child, standing in the middle of both Daily Wire and Steven Crowder, defending them both, seeing both points of view.
(Jeremy’s Response to Crowder)
Steven Crowder’s video is rather humble, but also doesn’t paint his view of being about money. He doesn’t want money, because it’s not about the money. It’s almost Dave Chappelle esque, but as someone who has been offered bad deals myself, and even signing a few, had a raw deal, as well. So, I can understand Crowder’s gripe with Boering’s Daily Wire, as it would own Crowder’s material in perpetuity, even after Crowder left Daily Wire, if he signed.
For me, this is an issue that needed to be settled between friends, but then, what does Michael Corleone say, “This isn’t personal, it’s just business.” And Boering is a business man with a successful medium, and Crowder has the right to refuse the deal. But to own a person’s creation is what I have a problem with in Daily Wire’s business model, in particular. And it’s a model that many have faced in Hollywood, too.
Will Republican’s face this new question of being at odds with one another while the media will continue on, watching the Republicans fight. But at least the Conservative and Independent thinkers will at least air their grievances, and honestly, seeing humans fight is entertaining.
The factotum of contracts is a simple and somewhat obtuse language in the world of entertainment business models, is the direct result of finding out what is best for the artist and the company. A company and artist are dependent on one another. It’s the bedrock of entertainment and how both artist and company will be able to make money but also make a great piece of art. Rick Rubin might disagree with this statement, because his model is finding out what is best for the art.
For Crowder and Daily Wire, they will both be fine. It’s not like this is the 1996 Source Awards where Jeremy Boering is doing his best Suge Knight impression about “how you don’t want the executive producer, all in the video, come to the Daily Wire.” While that is a hilarious idea to think about, it certainly won’t come to that.
(Also, whenever I think of the word Beef, rap is the only thing I can come to. Enjoy or at least relish in Biggie Small’s “What’s Beef.”)
