New Berserk “The Black Swordsman” trailer release “the new series will include the Lost Children Arc”
The trailer for the Black Swordsman, by Studio Ecylpse, makes for a little mention, but the idea of creating a thorough investigation of the Black Swordsman, if it captures the spirit, too, visually, is tough to do. 2015’s funimation release saw little to no acclaim, even from die-hard fans like myself. The answer is a teaser trailer doesn’t create a large debate.
The scene opens up with Casca laying by Guts side. A heartbeat creates tension. It’s like being inside the character’s body. Her eyes are staring at him, as if she knew her only love. The trailer ends with Guts, to no surprise, cutting off someone’s head. CBR states, “Despite not being an official anime project, Berserk: The Black Swordsman is widely being considered as the third Berserkanime. The previous two Berserk anime series were released in 1997 and 2016, respectively, with only the first of adapting small parts of the "Black Swordsman" story arc. Not only does the new series have to more faithfully adapt this story, but it must also overcome the negative reception of the second anime adaptation.”[1]
It’s worse waiting for a series we don’t know anything about, there’s no official word on voice casting. Yes, the 2016 anime was so laughably bad, with CGI so atrocious I almost don’t want to go over it. The outcome is that it could be the official sequel, but we don’t know yet, if it will achieve that goal. Faithful adaptations, even if they are made for the fans, might not translate to a broad audience. Sometimes it’s technical, but most classics are never appreciated in their time. Not to say people will appreciate the 2016 version, but the outcome is that any Berserk series, if it’s done well, the story will work itself into the visuals.
.
Studio Eclypse wants to be the bridge, the official sequel, but jerking it off won’t mean the series will be the official sequel of sequels. It’s been so tiring being a Berserk fan, as we’re all eagerly awaiting some live action adaptation that can blow everyone out of the water. But even some adaptations might just be heavy lifting for laughably bad takes that no other person can legitimately say is true or not.
I can’t argue that Studio Ecylpse’s version might be better, but CBR proclaiming it will be the official cannon might just be a stretch itself. The only thing the new series might do, and this is a soft prediction. It will go over the Lost Children Arc, as it will close off Guts vengeance against the fairy demon who took part in the Eclipse. It makes sense, and it’s a wise choice if that does happen.
