Hysteria is part of human reaction. It’s basically, at its nucleus, a simple thought that begins, “Oh no, we see a threat that we don’t know or assume is a threat, and so we have concerns,” because there are real legitimate concerns in society. From economic concerns when politicians create a large inflation that increases the cost of living, or acts of terrorism, that inspire hysterical behavior. Hysteria is sometimes a question of personal phobias. An OCD person, who can’t let people touch their grocery items, scanning it for them, politely, while they bag the groceries for them. It’s frustrating for anyone in a line, and sometimes it’s frustrating to deal with someone’s phobias.
Hysteria, on a societal whole, is why so many can be incapable of hearing another’s viewpoint. It’s hysteria that drives women to yell and scream at each other, over even a small disagreement, and then go on a whispering campaign about said “friend.” It’s hysteria, sometimes propagated by CNN or FOX news, that can create division in families. It’s hysteria that can make people say, “Oh, that person is a communist,” when it might or might not be true.
Because everything listed can be true, but it takes strong mental fortitude to look at any said information, and not get hysterical about it. Because any primary motivators, like love, ambition, greed, envy, or jealousy, can provoke hysteria. And if we’re all susceptible to one or any primary motivator of hysteria, maybe it can be personal, then someone can become obsessed and fanatical in their beliefs.
What motivates hysteria is the belief that all you have to do is say one thing and someone can then believe you. If they don’t look up what a person says, then they are immediately hackable. If they just stare and tolerate your words, they probably are just being kind and try to tolerate the hysterical talking points as much as they can. The conviction of being strong is sometimes admitting that it’s not enough to play into hysteria, but moving side by side, and admitting that hysteria hits us, as well.
Politics has always been a division in society, but to accept each other, and then move on with our lives must be a new moment moving forward for millennials and zoomers. It’s time to put down the guns and be honest and if we can’t, we can agree to disagree. Maybe it’s too far ahead for that, but I don’t see people allying with Black Lives Matter or Anti-fa anymore. There will be the crazies, but they are crazy for a reason.
But half of hysteria itself is created by the media, as even Tucker Carlson’s outing from Fox News proves that even the right have their own version of cancel culture. The question is being responsible enough to admit our hysteria existing within our own subconscious. People are too afraid to travel into the cave, like in Plato’s Cave, and explore our deepest and darkest fears. Or even admit and rise above those fears. It’s not easy in a world where the legacy media predominately owns much of the ad space in the mainstream press. And smaller presses are demonized by the large corporations.
So, to combat this, maybe admit what the world itself doesn’t want you to admit. Maybe turn off the news. Maybe touch grass. Maybe think carefully, but also don’t be afraid to change, or at least do some research, too. Because hysteria can’t win that way.

Great article about staying informed and never making rash decisions or succumbing to mob mentality. Though i will say that America wasn't scared enough of the Red Scare and History has proven Senator McCarthy absolutely correct about everything.
