In June 2024, Id studios, who has been responsible for major video game hits, including Doom (1993), Doom 2 (1994), Doom 3 (2004), Final Doom (1996), Doom 64 (1996)[1], Rage (2011), Doom (2016), Doom Eternal (2020), are all major releases under Id studios, has faced more than there share of controversy—from being blamed for mass school shootings, such as Columbine, but also rejecting SJW politics with their NPC holograms stating, “The Earth is the Universe’s melting pot”, the reason behind it is that the UAC considered earth “the universes’s melting pot” and wanted the demons to invade them. To which the left took that as a commentary on immigration policy during the Donald Trump presidency. *sighs in cringe* Even Doom Eternal’s soundtrack composer, Mick Gordon, “quit” because he wasn’t given a proper deadline, while the studio did reveal that enough time was given, but Mick wasn’t delivering.
While many would say that’s “not a big deal” controversy helps sell a series, but their’s no controversy so far about Doom: the Dark Ages. What I saw was akin to witnessing Kratos in his prime. The setting is a mythical kingdom under attack, the Sentinel homeworld, possibly. The arena where Doom Guy fights in Doom Eternal looks recent, as it’s not destroyed by time. Doom Guy is dressed in wolf’s mane cape, his super shotgun, with triggers on both sides, and the newest addition to the weapon slot, a shield, that if revved, can make blades pop out, and turn, letting him throw the circular shield, cutting down enemies, and returning like a boomerang.
Doomguy blocks shots from a Arachnotron with his shield, as it spurts out like machine gun bullets. He can mow down grunts with a gun that uses a skull head as ammo, grinds it down, and uses bits of the skull as bullets.
A projectile dart arrow weapon that can kill in one shot, and hang the enemy off a wall.
What is essentially important about the trailer is the use of the shield. It’s a nice addition that was teased at the end of Doom Eternals: The Ancient Gods Part 2, as the Dark Lord had a shield that made you wait until his eyes glowed green, stunning him, and then using the chain gun to drain him of his energy. The shield is as every bit as metal as it sounds. But the
The guitar riff sounds on par for DOOM and the catalog of music you would expect. Grinding riffs that take the listener, and pull them into the screen, as I almost felt bad for the demons. Because now, DOOM Guy, is no longer Flynn Taggert, the young inexperienced marine, as he’s the weapon of the Sentinel Prime knights, as he’s called into rip and tear from orbit, like he’s a nuclear missile.
His hero pose is akin to an Elden Ring entrance, as he’s now a Champion of the Sentinel Prime, as this is set to probably sell so many copies it will be ridiculous. The question is, why isn’t this out today, and where can I get a review copy? As of June 13th, 2024, Doom: The Dark Ages, is set for a 2025 release, for PS5, XBOX Series X/S, and PC via Steam.
And as of now, we’re so back.
