-For the Uncensored!
With Censorship, the culture war has become a dicy, spicy, and even unexpected trial and error in 2022. With Art being an embarrassment, to me, and every person with a working brain, can honestly tell you that censorious actions have taken place in major companies, such as Disney and Marvel.[1]
But Netflix, for the most part, is conflicted. It will entertain Cuties, a story about young girls twerking on stage, hoping to address the problems of young girls falling into dangerous societal traps with real 13 year old girls playing the roles, did not go over well with Conservative viewers in America. While the left’s psychotic adoration of censorship against comedy and freedom of speech, concerning Dave Chappelle, and his view on trans individuals, has created a double edged sword.
Netflix, according to Washington Post’s Megan Mcardle states on May 20th, 2022,“Educational polarization might have made taking sides on contentious issues seem less risky than it used to be for companies, because the most affluent customers — and educated employees — were all on one side. It seemed profitable to cater to their opinion, even if this made a bunch of less well-heeled people mad. But downscale customers also spend money on movies and streaming services. Perhaps more importantly, they vote.”[2]
So, why does all this context matter?
Netflix, in their brilliant bold, gtfo, way, stated in a company letter, through Breitbart’s Paul Bois’s May 13th, 2022 article, “If you’d find it hard to support our content breadth, Netflix may not be the best place for you,” the memo bluntly told employees.” Bois continues, “We support the artistic expression of the creators we choose to work with; we program for a diversity of audiences and tastes; and we let viewers decide what’s appropriate for them, versus having Netflix censor specific artists or voices.”[3]
Freedom of Speech still means something, and embracing woke ideologies didn’t serve Disney, Washington Post, Marvel, or Netflix bottom line. It’s costing them money to embrace messages that only relate to 2 percent of the population. It’s odd for me to say this, but I do support freedom of speech. Repressing speech is only going to make people go insane. If Hollywood takes notice with the massive failures Hollywood and Netflix suffered, would they learn their lessons?
I hope that they will, because I certainly don’t think so. Because freedom of speech matters, even if you don’t believe in it. And if you don’t, go somewhere else.

[1] The “get woke go broke” attitude that permeated blockbuster flops like 2016’s “Ghostbusters” box office was “17.2 million”[1] and 2019’s “Captain Marvel”, with the latter only recouping 154 million dollars its opening weekends, respectively. But even if Captain Marvel made it’s money back through empty seats but paid tickets with no real people, is cause for suspicion.
