-For the Uncensored!
As someone who believes that Art is the only place beyond politicians and statesmen who would corrupt and turn you into political tools, Art is the one place where the truth and fiction can exist. It allows imagination to see through the politics of the day and remain a long brilliant smoke that can turn the imagination into fire. Alchemy. Chemicals that would create a long lasting imprint on the mind.
America is built upon a Constitution. A right to bear arms, privacy and the ability to not implicate yourself in a crime, and various other rights Americans are given. What is the bedrock of the Constitution, of America, is freedom of speech.[1] Freedom of speech is used to combat statesmen and crooked politicians, on all sides, that would seek to destroy life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It’s obstinate forces, such as independent writers, both fiction and non-fiction, journalists, alike, all get together to question the norms of society.
Artistry, comedy, dramatists, painting, is not something to be catalogued in a grocery store, even though artists can copyright their work at the Library of Congress, for protection purposes, of course.[2] But the contention of mainstream artists have now ruined the word, artistry, for everyone. For a while, I watched the Futurama episode about an actor who wears a bag over his head, only to be an attention alien, who gets more powerful the more you pay attention and love him.
This is a comment on society and how much we give actors and thinkers too much credit. But the Ministry of Truth that Orwell coined in 1984 did not come to pass, but Americans now are facing that place. As an artist I deeply despise censorship, and if you say “naughty things,” and don’t do it, it’s not violence.[3] All of what I mentioned above has come to a turning point. The United States government has forced a “Disinformation Bureau” and its cult leader is Nina Jankowicz. She is a singer, and very talented, too. But in a song where she chooses to sing about “disinformation” is the troubling aspect. To all artists, like myself, this is troubling, as the left want to control one side of the narrative, and not allow freedom of speech for anyone else.[4]
All forms of art can have politics in it, and while her Disney cadence is strong, and she has capability to sing, it’s the topic I see disheartening. It’s hard for me to give the singer credit when the song itself preaches about disinformation, and the dangers it presents. Is this a statement on mental disability, as Tim Pool said? In a Tim Pool video, documenting Ms. Jancowizcs tweets, “this country is a little too free spirited.” Tim Pool said, “we are a nation of free spirits.”
And to that I agree. Free spirits like Walt Disney allowed my imagination to grow. Allowed me to be the writer that I am today. To read provocative material and find my own style without a curriculum forcing it in my hand. Walking around a bookstore is almost the curriculum anyone needs today. A library can hold so much for people who don’t have an education, too.
And if a nation like America didn’t have libraries or Walt Disney, America would look like a concentration camp. I am not against Nina Jancowicz being talented. Art requires talent from everyone, and to criticize Jancowicz. A Ministry of Truth, of one that wants to counter misinformation, is a dangerous thing to have in America. Because both sides could use this as a way to attack, and make freedom of speech impossible. As the left have demonstrated with hiring Nina Jancowicz. A left wing lunatic.
To believe in free speech means letting Nina Jancowicz have her place in society too. She has also wanted Breitbart news censored. She believes in Russiagate, and called the Hunter Biden laptop “misinformation.” It’s hard for me to believe that a Misinformation Bureau is the way to go about handling online criticism.
I can separate someone’s talents from their beliefs, too. I can watch Walt Disney, Tom Cruise, Clint Eastwood, Mel Gibson, and Oliver Stone and like them as valuable performance artists, and not have to believe in what they think politically or otherwise. Because all of them believe in Entertainment, and what they can bring to a film. While I dislike Phillip Roth’s or William Lindsay Greshem’s personal life, it doesn’t take away their twisted viewpoint away from the world of books. And yes, even Ta-Nehisi Coates, who I think is the most abysmal counter cultural figure in all of 2022, I wouldn’t want his speech restricted. Then there wouldn’t be nothing to laugh at, I say.
But if Ms. Jancowicz is willing to censor Breitbart, that means anyone else willing to criticize her or the left, will be censored, too. That means everyone will be forced or succumb to censorship. It makes me look at the left in disillusionment and ask the question, “I have nothing in common with Nina Jancowicz” and do I wish her to be censored, no. Absolutely not. Criticized, Hell Fucking Yes. Criticism helps artists become technically proficient and willing to experiment allows that right to hold the title as Artist. To smile in the face of laughter and laugh along with the criticism while finding what can be perfected in the art, too. But in an age where criticism is seen as violence and propaganda, America needs to fight for that right to criticize others and have a conversation. As Art must be able to do, and in the battle of ideas, the best ideas will win.
But in her post, she said, “Consider me the Mary Poppins of Disinformation” and to which I said, “Mary Poppins wasn’t a Disney villain.” And in Jancowicz world, we’re all fit to be censored, even her friends, too.
.
[1] Yeah, no shit. There’s a lot of other rights. As you know, I study the first amendment because as an artist this is what I must fight for in my articles. Speech, of course, is not violence. So leave that shit at the article.
[2] Don’t listen to British people who say “when you publish it it’s then protected.” I guess that works for Britain but they are still living under the crown.
[3] Violence in the real world is different from the use of words. If the media is spurning that violence against people, with the help of politicians, that’s another argument. But for arguments sake, it would be then creating violence, because people listen to politicians, and not artists. If politicians call on violence, then that is then creating violence through words. But if people don’t start questioning what politicians say, right or left, then that person ceases to be an individual and be a slave to the herd. You’re not an artist if you’re part of any herd. All you need is a lover, and you don’t need any other friends. But
[4] Go to any other country outside the US and see how well that works out. Just saying.
