-For the Uncensored!
This may be a bit of a reach considering that “Content Creators” can become such a catch all term. If you’re a person who bought a e-girls bathwater, you’re probably giving money to a “content creator.” We’ll get into the pros and cons. But you are correct, you did support an e girl who sold you her bathwater. Because you’re all freaks!
Just kidding, but the point is, smaller creators are where the minds of many amazing people go. Other than my words, that you can subscribe to and help let me do longer pieces, or at least support people who have been rejected by the industry, is a good thing. It’s never been a better time to be an independent artist. For me, as a writer, Substack is free and supports freedom of speech.[i] Drawers and comic book writers can get independently financed through Indiegogo where, Martina Markota’s long awaited Lady Alchemy comic, is being made and published by Martina Markota who want to see Lady Alchemy finished and released onto the world. Athon.X is making a great series called Captain Kekistan. What makes these two interesting is that you don’t see this in the mainstream anymore. Most good artists, even Doug TeNaple, the creator of Earthworm Jim, received donations through Indiegogo, too.
Because artists need to be able to create. And if major publishers won’t start accepting new artists who are edgy and have something to say, where will they go? It’s good to support artists who need their vision financed and put into play. Sometimes you can get a horrible looking product, and you must always vet what you’re giving money too.
Sometimes someone taking money on behalf of a dead girl in the news is going to pocket the money through a gofundme page.
I can’t stress that what you have by most modern standrads is that a new age is upon us in 2022, but what happens when a large majority of creative people, don’t get their dreams realized? What is a book if no one takes interest in it? Is it because people who have been cancelled see far more success?
And to support the independent creators mean you’re going to stick with them, and help them get better. That’s why so many creative people have fled the industry en masse. And in 2022, a failing economic growth, low paying jobs, and not allowing men back into the work force, has not helped people be creative, at all.
But screaming, “Go Fund Me” has its risk. Being cancelled by a major corporation doesn’t always mean you’re going to have supporters help you. It’s hard to see so many good entertainers go so endlessly woke, and expel good writers and entertainers from the forefront, just to meet censorious Karens who won’t look twice to ruining their lives. And won’t buy the woke shit, either.[ii]
It’s hard to be a creative person when you’re constantly asked to state a stance on everything. I don’t want to talk about politics all the time. Political art doesn’t make good art, it just has a message. I didn’t get into Art to spew any message except my art from my perspective. And to take everything into account is impossible. It can’t be done by most Artists, except me.[iii] There’s a reason why Dune and Star Wars are related, but they aren’t the same story.
But to support creators is the bed rock of Art. It allows the artist, like myself, Martina, and Athon.X, to be able to create and make sure our vision is the way we see it.[iv] But not everyone is going to make through crowd funding, either. It takes dedication and sacrifice to give money to people you might be disappointed in. But smaller creators have to think about the customer or they will never have a paycheck. It’s hard to go out there and ask for money. It sucks. Sometimes things happen, sometimes it doesn’t.
But without patrons, art will never succeed. And smaller artists are where your money should go. Not to coporations who hate your guts and will endlessly disregard your opinion. As a businessman and artist, it’s a weird thing, but art and commerce can work. It takes a great idea and loyal people to help, too.
Otherwise it’s hard to send manuscripts out all the time and never hearing back. It reminds me that I have other options, of course, but writing these articles are fun and they help people be aware of my presence. Substack didn’t exist in 2004, but also was more focused on getting a job. But there are easier ways to get by, as an artist, too.
I haven’t really talked about this in a long time, and I want to keep up with my consistency. Supporting writers and artists, on the independent level, shows the major corporations what should be made and what direction they will go.
All it takes, is you. Dear Reader.
[i] Don’t pull a fast one, and start censoring people, Substack. Be better than the rest of the major publishers, and let people write as they should. Too many good people are depending on you to not bend the knee.
[ii] Get Woke, Go Broke. Have fun with the advance because you won’t sell a single dime of that bullshit corn fed unimaginative horse shit you keep seeing at your local book stores. Looking at you Captain Marvel, Batwoman, and killing off your fan base. It was fun while it lasted I guess. But I respect Hideo Kojima and like Last of Us. I truly am someone you can’t pigeon hole.
[iii] Half kidding, maybe.
[iv] Martina nor Athon.X have to agree with everything here, either. Just letting everyone know. We may differently on some things, but I want them to succeed no matter what. We may have different viewpoints in life, but I want creators to have a platform, too.
