-For the Uncensored!
The truly perceptive artists, before the Internet boom took off, always needed a helping hand. If Malcom Gladwell said that, “everyone needs help” and “we can’t do it alone” he has never met the Internet. In a time when the Internet was just a whisper and cell phones were only for a few privileged elites. The idea of having a producer on a film set was the most agonizing bullshit any creative person has had to do deal with. Nobody whoever worked on a Weinstein movie set ever went forward into the film business unscathed. Don’t let anyone fool you. Working with film producers who greedily wanted to control the finished product upon its inception were always seen as the enemy to the film community. Unless the producer on the film was closely linked to the director and writer. But the ideal moguls in the 60’s and 70’s was no more apparent than Robert Evans.
Robert Evans, in the 60’s, was the young producer, whose mother, Florence, was a wealthy jewess and his father, Archie Shapera, a dentist in Harlem. His years as a film producer are truly legendary in the world of filmmaking.[i] From producing films for Paramount Pictures, such as Rosemary’s Baby (1968), Love Story (1970), and his shining moment, The Godfather (1972), based off Mario Puzos seminal gangster epic of the Corleone Family.
The conviction of 1970’s The Godfather by Mario Puzo, is that it was an international best seller. That’s the only thing boomers cared about. It shows how Boomers and there business ethic never once thought about craft. But that’s for another time. Only for me, the book remains a classic among gangster stories. Bringing the filth and the high life together in one single volume.
But Film Producers are finicky little people with shriveled dicks/tits always on the edge of raping some young starting actress. But I don’t get this from Evans, whose cool demeanor, only had one hint of trouble on him later on, which was cocaine smuggling in 1980. To which part of his release was making an antidrug commercial.[ii]
The story of the Godfather’s uneasy production into filmmaking legend is not only part of Robert Evans career, but his eye for hungry talented artists, makes Robert Evans one of the last daring producers the world has ever seen. But that didn’t mean Coppola didn’t have problems either.
But it’s a time when producers, in the 70’s, saw young filmmakers, as a viable asset to film business. But today, this almost seems like an analogue story, where money was always needed, and no matter what, the producers had to have their say. If I was putting my money up and nobody wanted to listen to me, I would be pissed, too.
But the reality is, an artist can invest in themselves, now. They don’t have to rely on a producer anymore. If an artist has the work, all they need is a full time job to help put their work into motion. Unless the Internet dies out, and then again, living at the mercy of blood thirsty rape snorting producers like the Weinstein brothers. But Robert Evans, at this moment, seems like the last stage man who saw talent and procured them into famous, classic stories, a staple and testament to the films of 1960’s and early 70’s.

Also I apologize for the Amazon source, but it’s easier to look at Amazon’s database and find it rather than scouring the web. You don’t have to buy the book here but you can certainly go from here and then buy it somewhere else. Buying through the used section of the store is the only reason to use Amazon, anyways.
