-For the Uncensored!
As much of G4’s history, most of the show, as it concerns me, was always a misnomer. I always knew that Olivia Munn was on the show, but I was mostly crafting my novels and trying to find what made me happy as a gamer, or an artist. I never took video game journalism seriously. Whoever thinks video game personalities are of any importance, it’s not the case here. I always subscribed to Game Informer, Nintendo Power, for a long time. I enjoyed the game guides that people did in order to help me figure out how to beat a new video game. These are the joyous years that I remember with video game journalism. I actually wanted to know what was coming out and what I could buy or at least get a good review, so I could make an informed opinion on what I should do with my money.
Only time has proven that video game journalists don’t actually care about what they cover. If the market in 2022 represents current standards, G4 and none of the publications mentioned above, don’t represent the mainstream or the power of the consumer.
While I did enjoy Last of Us Part 2 and defended it in its time of criticism, after playing and reviewing the game, seeing its faults, coming to like its enhanced combat mechanics, emotionally driven storytelling, and the ability to bend the limits of the PlayStation 4 Pro hardware, graphics unlike systems could ever see. Sometimes popular opinion can be overwhelming. Which is why G4, and all its sincerity, should have remained dead.
With a new female cohost, Ms. Froskirini ranting about “how Olivia Munn was not here to look pretty on the eyes” is a complete falsehood. Garbage. Poppycock. Horrid. Believe me, no gamer would have cared before Ms. Froskirini opens her mouth.
Razörfist, reveals so many times, of Olivia Munn’s provocative skits that made me wish I paid attention more. And hey, they were good. Better than any acting she has done, other than working with Aaron Sorkin, that is.
What made G4 important to the world of gamers is that talking about “sexism in gaming” is an overripe concept in the year 2022 A.D. What is good about a woman screaming about “sexism” when the show was made to titillate and excite, only has ruined the brand. But to question this raises good points.
Calling out video game taboos, like crunch, is a good thing. It creates a healthy discussion about working conditions. Microtransactions that unfairly charge exorbitant amounts of money for content that should be offered with the full edition of said game. These are all good topics to talk about. It would make sense that the companies, like G4, would have the basic common knowledge concerning what video game players want. And to be yelled at by a pixie fairy girl with a buzz cut to represent me as a gamer, and the ladies of gaming, would hate this pixel girl, Ms. Froskirini, too. The art is not on display here. Nothing about the quality of storytelling, just another feminist in a position of power, displaying her ridiculous tough guy attitude.
No craft, no intelligence, and no standards of respect for art and the world video games have to offer. If G4 is on display here, it’s a resurrection and then crucifixion, once again, based on identity politics. With feminists screaming about “Sexism in video games” I have only one good notion: make a game and stop complaining. But that would mean Ms. Froskirini would have to do something other than have unbalanced opinions that nobody can relate to.
Sucks to suck., Ms. Froskirini.
