Art and Culture #43: Hating on Frank Miller—A Reason Why I Don’t Buy Modern American Comics Anymore!
-For the Uncensored!
I know this is part of the culture of 2021. If you have said nasty things and published books that don’t meet the SJW liberal group think, I would hate for them to read my work. Because somehow that justifies a twitter campaign against older artists that don’t fit the modern “progressive” bill.
According to Just Some Guy, Frank Miller was invited to a London Comic Con, and some angry twat online was angry at Frank Miller, because of writing a book called, Holy Terror. Only when she proceeded to get criticism for attacking Frank Miller, and then didn’t end up going to the London Comic Con anyway. As Just Some Guy won’t mention the girls name who started the controversy, I don’t care to either. She deserves no consideration, because nobody will ever care about her. A pimple on Frank Miller’s ass as far as I’m concerned. And no disrespect to Frank Miller, he probably has a lot of other people pissed off at him too because he was successful.
Well, people are imperfect. I feel odd having to bring this up because tiktokers were born yesterday don’t really get it. I wish that tiktokers could put the phone down and take themselves to a quiet place before they start saying things on Twitter.
To a man like myself, Frank Miller is a god in the comic book industry, just as much as Kentaro Miura is, RIP. He’s managed to be more invested in pushing the culture toward an artistic medium that most modern comic book creators don’t want to do. I don’t get the hatred toward auteurs like Frank Miller for becoming more conservative, with books like Holy Terror, a fictional superhero who was responding to the terrorist attacks of 9/11 (available on Amazon and every retailer you can imagine).
It made me realize that corporate culture has no idea on how to take a legend like Frank Miller. Author of over countless classics like the Dark Knight Returns (and its sequels), 300 and Xerxes, Ronin, and countless others provides the near perfect quality of Miller’s style and range. You don’t have to read him in order to find his style brilliant, and if you’re really someone who enjoys American comics in 2021, you should go to a doctor to see if you have high blood pressure. They don’t push anything edgy. They don’t want to offend the non-comic book readers, or the people who don’t read.
That’s why Anime and Manga are my go to with comics. I would buy stock in a manga company just to prove it, as well. Artists will always be at the forefront of genuine controversy. Genuine controversy is what makes story tellers and artists powerful. If the rage against society remains a beacon of hope for artists to speak there mind, visual art is just as important as the written word. It’s not better or worse, but it’s important as well as video games are.
But to hate on Frank Miller is an easy target when Alan Moore continues to show his grey beard is not in touch with society. I mean, he’s a shaman, and while I don’t agree with his personal political statements, I can respect his artistry and his place in the culture. That’s how we should look at artists who we don’t agree with, politically. Everyone has a right to create art, and if you don’t like his art, don’t buy it. Change the channel. Keep scrolling. Don’t think your nasty comment is unappreciated, because I might or might not troll you. Just keep swinging, right? But I digress.
To hate on Frank Miller is what many boomers and millennials don’t have in modern society. A vision. A vision requires the brute strength of a creator to find a subject that bothers him and develop that idea, no matter what others might find wrong with it.
And besides, why can’t Frank Miller hate Islamo Fascism? Because it poisoned the well between America and the Middle East? And why can’t we hate Islamo Fascists for corrupting Islam? Can’t we hate a group of people who pray for the downfall of America? It’s because America is an embarrassment to society in 2021, but Frank Miller isn’t.
But for those who Frank Miller have one thing in common. A small pecker and a hatred for talent. I get why the American comic book industry favored moronic adaptation of Captain Marvel and despised Zach Snyder’s version of super heroes when Marvel destroyed all but my sense of watching films. The cookie cutter idea of simple and compact hero’s with nothing real to gain or lose. The emotion is at the bottom, surface level placebo effect that has never made me want to own a Marvel film at all. I only own the first Avengers and maybe Age of Ultron.
But America would rather have the dumbed down comics instead of hero’s people can relate or are afraid of. Which is why hating Frank Miller, in its consequence bears nothing more than a trifle on the stain of a man more accomplished and the detractors against him, a tick on his balls.
What makes hating Frank Miller so delectable to watch others flail in rage that Frank Miller won’t apologize for who he is. It’s hard to care about little comic nerds who follow every PC guideline that they can in order to fight against a man who has lived life to the fullest. And academics with not a slight interest in what real comic book readers actually care about.
It’s time to fight back against society that would seek to punish artists who speak out against the norms of censorship and society that pushes it. Without a vision, you will get failed art, and Frank Miller definitely has a vision. It’s time to be ourselves again and escape, not listen to failed twitter socialites who don’t have a life outside there failed indoctrinated beliefs of Social Justice warrior concepts. Also, I would put no more stock in American comics until they start caring about people who like to read comics and like thrill and dangerous ideas. Manga will always trump American comics because of there willingness to offend everyone. As a word of advice to artists, if you want to be like this weirdo girl, Then prepare to stick a banana up your ass just to get views, like the Amazing Atheist. So, youtubers and SJW socialites, if you diss Frank Miller, you diss me.
