Art and Culture # 110: Rachel Ziegler, Disney, and Hollywood’s Disastrous Approach to Destroying Lifelong Brands
For many Disney fans, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937), published in 1812 by the Brothers Grimm, is the pillar of Disney magic that no one can deny the splendor and craft upon viewing. Snow White is put to sleep by a poison apple and a prince comes along to kiss her and wake her up out of her slumber. The story, at its heart is about female jealousy. The story itself shouldn’t be this controversial, but to Rachel Ziegler, the star of the 2024 adaptation of Snow White, she is excellent at talking about the film in various clips that have circulated Twitter, and she makes anyone who watches her go to sleep and say, “I’m never watching this movie,” and anyone would be right to do so.
“We have taken a different approach to what I’m sure I assume is a love story,” Rachel Ziegler states in some premiere, where she deems herself the farest of them all. The only approach that any creative person would see is “she knows how to destroy a business,” and the craft of destruction is what Hollywood knows what to do. And not in a good way, anymore.
Being creative isn’t a fashion statement. It’s a realization of mores that any artist should be against. If Rachel Ziegler was smart enough, she would have taken Jenny Ortega’s lead and follow up with an even more ardent adaptation of the original Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. But Rachel Ziegler, in her own way, is never going to see any popularity after this. Otherwise, she’s a stupid bitch that didn’t realize people, like myself, will call her and the corporations out if they talk slick.
The film, will most certainly flop, and Rachel Zeigler will be nothing more than another starlet used up by the come factory that is Hollywood lamestream artists who can’t craft a story or care about the history of the original story that Snow White actually told. The ultimate fate is simple: the film will flop, nobody will remember Rachel Ziegler, and hopefully, the film can be salvaged.
But again, not everyone can be Jenny Ortega. I guess Rachel Ziegler isn’t the fairest of them all.
