Art and Culture # 108: Why it’s Better to be Indie or Self Published During a Writer’s Strike
(Note: A Mexican Standoff to be exact. Source: https://rowandodds.artstation.com/projects/vgNaO.)
While 2023 has provided all but little entertainment to feast upon, the art and culture world isn’t bereft from in-fighting between studios and high paid writers. But the question of independence is scary to most well fed writers. The bar is so extremely low it doesn’t present any real option to be independent. If a writer has to write garbage Marvel TV shows and movies, can’t said writer have a Substack blog where he can write his own stories and opinions away from the mainstream shitbags who think they can control your wallet and thoughts.
Honestly, this isn’t even a plug for Substack, even though my Substack does offer the broadest arrange of my personality. My political, reviews, and even a full fledged book, the Journey to Mein Leben, is available to paying subscribers, only. But a writer strike would mean the world isn’t going to listen to a greedy hedge fund studio bought by the Chinese government and the dirtball producers who will literally change a poster, as they did for Black Panther, to cover the main star, Chadwick Boseman, in order to not offend the Chinese market. In a way I do feel bad for entertainment, today. It’s a reflection almost memento-mori about the world itself, as a writer’s strike will demonstrate what a few select producers and money men will hold over the audience and “creative” writers.
So, being that going indie or self published, is the reason why so many Hollywood writers would and should flee to Substack. Because freedom of speech matters and to be able to monetize your words for the sake of Freedom of Speech is why the site is so appealing. But to be independent is scary. It doesn’t mean you have instant money. You have to prove your worth and why you’re writing on Substack.
But the question is, art should be free from an umbrella corporation, like MGM, Paramount, Disney, or HBO, in order to help more new companies find their own brand that suits them, without the greedy overlords trying to control every piece of the entertainment pie. The world of Art, the artists who make them, should be able to pitch their wares to the studios, and while many would call us “scabbers” maybe it’s a daunting reality that many striking writers feel. While I have supported the strike, there’s another death blow taking place.
The audience ourselves are suffering, because the world of art shouldn’t just be a leftist brand, and while the Daily Wire boasts 8 million subscribers, it’s still a possible threat that everyone, including Conservatives, deserve their own entertainment, too. While still looking like a film, book, painting, of high quality, and can help be more persuasive than manipulative. But then, entertainment is in the eye of the camel’s dick. Many can suck on it, but the world of art itself is a multifaceted place where nothing is verbotim or should be one central monopoly, either.
The trade off is, all of us are suffering during the writers strike, and maybe, more than, ever it’s time for people to make their own art. Until the Internet becomes a Red Curtain, controlled by the government, and then we’re really fucked. Art itself might not exist if that happens.

yeah, it was definitely a mistake to allow the left to dominate the culture.
