-For the Uncensored!
After what seems like a long time interrupted, the first conclusions is simple. A Religion and Cult are two different parameters of what human society dwells within. A Religion is to provide a community in which people have a world view that everyone thinks the same, pray, tithe, but not induce bodily harm on another. It’s what Christians do every Sunday, where they recap what the scriptures are, and they congregate and talk to one another. Muslims and Jews do this to a certain degree. It’s meant to bring people together, not create strife.
Religion is a community that is not at war with the outside society, but it’s to help makes sense of the world in a peaceful, noncombative way. To not treat people with disrespect, because all three principle religions of Judaism and Christianity are based out of the Golden Rule attitude. Treat people with respect and fairness, and you will get far. If a religion is combative, it’s not allowed to reciprocate criticism. If religion is about peace, a cult is primarily focused on censorship and hive mind think.
What a cult is a society that won’t hear what another person has to say. A cultist can range from any religious extremist who would take the life of another in Gods vision. For Islam, we call them Jihadists, who believe that there war against the world is dictated by the Jihad. A Muslim call to arms. A jihad is by definition a cult in the Muslim world two prime examples mentioned above. Resistant to criticism and openly calls for censorship or death to the heathen. A cult is primarily focused on blind obedience, not asking questions.
Since religions and cults both focus on belief, they do not share the same vision of a religion, A religion, in a normal way, should be open and be willing to discuss what is wrong with society and how not to treat people differently than they are. If a Christian sect, like the Westborough Baptist Church, don’t have to accept homosexuality it’s there right to do so without threat of physical violence against any homosexual. To have the right to protest against what people find distasteful is a key constitution in America.
A cultist would then take another’s life regardless of the law’s protecting all rights of free speech. That person, of any faith, should face the maximum penalty and consequences available to a judicial system.
But the thing is, A religious person goes to church, or a mosque, synagogue, to not be at odds with society. Violence is not the answer in religion. Unless you’re a Muslim terrorist, and use the Quran as an excuse to murder a woman who’s showing her hair. Religious people do not use violence as an answer to their problems. So, a religion and cult are two different things.
Another point to add: cults exist in politics, too. And when politician wear the gauntlet of a faith, they don’t have to follow every rule the faith would ask of them. Every time a Republican supports Israel, I question why they do this. As I support Israel, Republicans probably take no effort to understand the complexity Jews face when the Intifada happens. Politicians only want votes, and when faith is involved, it becomes Hollywood. Reading a script. Religion shouldn’t be a script. It should talk about being at peace and facing the world and learning to deal with the complexities and cruelty the world can offer. A community is built in religion, a cult is cut off from society. Especially on Capitol Hill, in Hollywood. Even the “Demilitarize! From Atlanta to Palestine” group, according to Joshua Washington from the Times of Israeal’s op-ed August 7th, 2020, stated, “opposed the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE) by using baseless accusations and empty platitudes to make the conclusion that Israeli police forces teach the US police department to oppress minorities. Detractors of GILEE claim that Israel taught Derek Chauvin to kneel on George Floyd’s neck, when that is not even a tactic Israeli Police have ever used, let alone teach. The other missing element in these efforts is that the US police departments works with many other countries, so to attribute police brutality in the US to Israel and only Israel is not only wrong, it is antisemitic. Not to mention the fact that US police brutality predates modern day Israel. Nevertheless, groups like the Demilitarize! From Atlanta to Palestine focus solely on Israel, creating problems where there are none.”[1]
So the strife of religion finds its way through politics, culture, art, but cultists often construe larger complex issues religion can offer. Peace to a weary soul. Someone curious to be happy and learn what a community can offer. And faith can be at the heart of a productive existence.
So whether you are a religious person, homosexual, Muslim, Christian, Jew, politician, belief should be genuine. Not a publicity stunt or political gain. Or popularity either. It’s about accepting the world for its faults and having your community to celebrate your oneness with God. To debate and a healthy dialogue with the outside world is the beautiful aspects religion can address, too. To heal your sadness and believe in something bigger than yourself, while dealing with a complex world.
