An Open to Letter to Women Who Hate Gamers!
In an August 19th, 2024 tweet made by Conservative influencer Liz Wheeler, who stated that “Women are attracted to men based on men’s ability to protect, provide, produce, & procreate. Hobbies that illustrate that ability are attractive to women.”[1]
First of all, Liz Wheeler is a millennial woman who gets paid to attack liberals, which I don’t mind her doing, and that front I share with her, and she does it on a mid level energy. No Alex Jones type level of energy. I have no problems with her on that front.
What I find puzzling is that a woman like Liz should understand is that she sounds like a boomer who doesn’t understand her own children, or men her own age. Millennial women who complain about male gamers are people who don’t understand where pop culture is. It’s looking at society with a skewed perspective and nobody, not even Liz Wheeler, has the right to speak on a thriving culture that she is not a part of.
Books, articles, and even audio books, aren’t interesting to millennials or even Zoomers anymore. And I’m someone who loves books, writing articles, and sometimes using favorite audio books to sleep. But sometimes I just want to play a video game after a long day of work. I don’t want to spend time with my own thoughts, because it’s hard to deal with.
Liz Wheeler is the type of person who would have hated Adult Swim because her boyfriend finds it funnier than her. This is also an admission of her own weakness that maybe Liz can’t play games but also was dumped by a gamer.
But someone who is into political blood sport shouldn’t be commenting on things she doesn’t know or has any real experience in. It’s why the Conservative movement has no real big time stars supporting them. It’s how the old school boomers felt about video games, with Jack Thompson, who raged against violence in video games. That seems more noble, in some respects, than say Liz Wheeler saying men are “Unattractive.”
Pewdie Pie, a popular youtuber who plays video games for a living, has a wife and child. This all to me sounds like a woman who can’t come to the realization that the world has changed and nobody agrees with her. Like a cinema buff who can’t stand video games because video games have come a long way since Pac Man.
The Last of Us, by Naughty Dog studios, is far more cinematic than any drama made by any living film studio in 2024. What makes Liz sound like an aging anti-gamer boomer is that women today, do love video games and fight for their existence.
The popular opinion is that women now can appreciate video games because it’s not a boys club anymore. There are millennial women who love video games too but thought it was just a fad and focused on careers and family. But it’s not a minority anymore. And it makes Liz Wheeler more of a minority than the majority.
It’s just hard to find streamers who have conservative values, because conservatives don’t pay streamers bills. And that’s why Liz is an example of a fossil that can’t take the fact that she and her values aren’t as popular as any video game.
And we probably share far more in common with politics than video games, but this is why Conservatives are losing the culture war.
Thanks Liz, but no thanks.
